A Unique Railroad Rail Bench Anvil
The dictionary defines Unique as; Being the only one of its kind, unlike anything else. I hope you will appreciate my twist on using a rr rail to be used as an anvil. It was not intended to be a replacement to a traditional anvil for heavy forging, rather,a tool that can be adaptive to a wide variety of specialty metal working operations. The collection of tools shown in the above picture are only a start, I can see different sized rivet head backers, bending dies, and custom swage blocks, being added in the future. The horn pocket, hardy pocket, and mandrel holes will compliment a specialty tool, that any future craft project should require

Rail bench anvil was built with a 2 1/2 inch steel plate sandwiched between two pieces of rail, one side milled to center web.
The hardy locks the interchangeable horn in place by fitting into the horn groove.
The tang of the hardy has a threaded hole, a socket head cap screw pulls the hardy tight into the horn groove.
Rail anvil has two round holes on far end to hold mandrels and bending dies.
My Kearney & Trecker mill feeds .250 / turn horizontal feed, and .125 / turn up and down. So I power fed up [actually down] from the base, near the A in Canada, then engaged both table and elevation together. [ This part of the design, I just wanted to do this once!]
